{ How To: Wood Buttons }

We love wood buttons! They’re the perfect accessory to ‘adorn’ your projects. Here are the step by step instructions to achieve the perfect diamond glazed wood button.

Step 1: Trace the shape of the wood button onto the design paper.

Step 2: Cut out the shape.

Step 3: Apply a light coat of decoupage to one side of the wooden button.

Step 4: While the glue is still wet, apply the design paper that is cut to fit the shape. TIP– Use sandpaper around the edges to easily trim off the excess paper.

Step 5: To get the diamond glaze affect, we use dimensional magic from Mod Podge or any type of crystal laquer. It takes about 30 minutes to dry and gives a fun dimensional feel to the button.

Now that you’re all an expert at making wood buttons you can purchase different styles and shapes at our website http://bit.ly/LpIlqN or your local craft store that carriers ADORNit products.

{ Guest Blogger: Angela Lenssen }

I’m Angela Lenssen, a mom of three who started scrapping as a child with my mom. I picked it up as a “full time hobby” after marriage and when my first child was on the way about 12 years ago. My skill has definitely evolved over the years of practice, but I have always stuck with a basic, clean style. I’m a thrifty gal, so you’ll likely find me mixing older scrappy products that I’ve had for “ages” with fun new elements to create simple yet attractive layouts.

Along with scrapbooking, I also love photography. My camera has been my best friend in this last year through some photography classes and lots of practice. You can see a lot of my recent photo shoots on my blog at www.mom-e-memoirs.blogspot.com and if you go back in the archives you’ll also see a lot of great scrapbooking, too! My biggest claim to scrapbooking “fame” are the two times my layouts have been published in Creating Keepsakes Magazine… and now guest blogging on the ADORNit Blog! Isn’t it just great to be recognized for your work doing something you love?

 Mixing up a variety of ADORNit products was a fun challenge for me. I chose to match up some older products with newer ones and made some fresh layouts that don’t look at all dated. Have you ever tried combining old with new?

 My “Soccer Pals” layout includes a wide variety of pattern papers from the Misty Collection, Outdoors Collection, Love Fest Collection, and (of course) the Soccer Paper Stack Pack. I think a great way to match up different paper lines is to focus on the colors in the photos you’re using. Pull pattern papers that match the colors in your photos– your photos will stand out and the papers will beautifully “accessorize” your pictures. If your design is current, people will not generally notice “outdated” patterns on papers. The Soccer Attitude stickers and foam sticker letters were a perfect embellishment– I popped a bunch of them up to make dimensional elements.

Don’t let a themed paper stop you from branching out! My On the Farm layout uses pattern papers from the Soccer Paper Stack Pack too! Papers from the stack on kraft paper along with photos and foam letters was all I needed to create this layout. Sometimes you have a theme to your page that isn’t a theme you can find in the scrapbook stores. Or, the themed items at the stores just don’t quite match your photos or aren’t your style. Coming from a farming family, I definitely get creative with supplies that are meant for other pages. You can make your own embellishments– I simply cut up papers from the Soccer Paper Stack Pack to make the little tractors, clouds and sunshine on the page.

 Thanks for coming to check out my stuff here! I hope it inspires you to create something new with old supplies or repurpose supplies that are meant for a different theme. Pull out some of your stash and start something fun!

{ Stop to Smell the Roses – Oregon }

You know the saying work hard play hard? We take full advantage and make sure we are doing both equally! We have made it custom when traveling to trade shows that we also stop to smell the roses along the way. We find unique spots in each city to visit and learn about the culture and soak in the atmosphere.

On our recent travel to Oregon we made sure to live it up and ask people the best places to visit. We had an entire day to spend and we chose two very fun spots. We are really into history and learning about the past that makes the present so beautiful. I’m glad my mom passed down this passion because it’s great bonding time! We visited the historical site Pittock Mansion where it’s nestled in the hills of Portland and sits 1,000 feet above the city line. (Beautiful view!) Something that we loved seeing was they kept scrapbooks back then. Yes I said scrapbooks! Even they knew the importance of saving memories and passing it down. Of course they are not as extravagant as they are now but it served an important purpose. We need to remember that our books do not need to all be the best but we just need to do it. Simple pages keep the memories just as well as ornate ones.

The next place we visited was Haystack Rock on the coast of Oregon. I was dying to see the beach and forced my mom to drive us out to Cannon Beach. Although when you think “beach” you think warm but I don’t know if there is a warm beach in Oregon! It was cold enough for gloves and a hat! You could definitely tell we were tourists when we showed up in our light jackets. Beside the brisk weather we had so much fun enjoying the view and listening to the roar of the ocean.

{ Springtime Layout }

It’s officially Springtime and in our family we couldn’t be any happier. In my house with three little boys being stuck inside all Winter starts to get old very fast. These are picture of our family last Spring all dressed up in our Sunday best. I thought it was very fitting for this cute Spring paper.

I LOVE this cute Watering Can Patterned Paper. Since I love to fussy cut, this page just jumped right out at me. With a little bit a photo matting, a bit of fussy cutting, and a few jewels here and there this page was created. Tell me what things you love to put on your Springtime pages.

ADORNit Supplies: Watering Can 12×12, Bunny Word Play 12×12, Eggs Scattered 12×12, Bunny Stripe Cut Up 12×12, Easter Cut Apart 12×12, White Jewel Droplets.

{ Sweet Easter Card }

I was going out to deliver some Easter treats to a few friends and decided they had to have a handmade card. I love our new Easter 12×12 paper and knew that would be perfect. I didn’t have a lot of time and because the paper has so much artwork they came together so quickly.. A little bit of fussy cutting (only used paper – no stickers) and  a few pop dots, you have a darling dimensional card. I challenge you to take 15 minutes out of your day and make a handmade card to brighten someone’s day.

{ Store Spotlight: A Joy Forever }

We had so much fun visiting with our long time friends and owners at A Joy Forever in Milwaukie, Oregon. Joy and David have a special place in our hearts because over the past 12 years we have not only built a working relationship but a friendship that will last forever. Each time we travel to our wholesale trade show we look forward to visiting with our dear friends.  After all these years we finally made it to their darling scrapbook shop where we even found ourselves buying scrapbook paper from her fantastic selection. Yes, the ADORNit Girls who have oodles of paper couldn’t resist and bought more! Goes to show you can never have too much ;)
Seems fitting that we found our ADORNit travel paper while we were traveling in Oregon.

We loved the paper trays David built for their store. They slide like drawers so you can see the paper and keep everything organized, and yes you guessed it, we bought some for our store too! We love finding ADORNit products at the stores we visit. Here you can see the Birthday Boy & Girl Collection.

If you are ever in the Milwaukie area you need to stop by A Joy Forever! You will be amazed at their selection and the sweet people who will help you find the perfect project.

XOXO

{ Easter Letter Press Tray }

I’m excited to blog about this darling Easter project I created using the ADORNit letter press tray. First off, I have to admit that I’m a beginner crafter, but this was such a fun home dec project! At this point you can take a sigh of relief and be assured this is an EASY project to accomplish. If I can do it, you can do it! It took me about a 1 ½ hours and now that all the hard stuff is done this should be easy for you to make! This blog post will help you accomplish this fun project fast and easy so you can decorate for Easter.

First step is to trace the chipboard provided to the outside shape of the wooden tray. At this step I also traced the shapes of the squares inside of the tray. This helped me know where I needed to lay the paper and give me an idea of my design space.

Inside the wood kit you will find darling Easter Wood Shapes. These wood shapes are easy to press and pop out. I used the largest scallop frame and painted it orange with craft paint. I’m really into vintage so I distressed it lightly with a brown stamp around the edges. I picked a spot on the word paper to go inside the frame.

I had a can of yellow spray paint on-hand which made painting the  flourish chipboard and spring wood shape super easy!
I used all the wood shaped eggs and covered them with paper.

The smaller eggs are placed next to the bunny and add a fun dimension. I also used the bunny wood shape to pop it out of the frame.

This picture is a finished view of when I was done laying the paper on the chipboard and how I adhered it with zipdry glue. It doesn’t look that pretty, but once the wood frame goes over top of it, you can’t even see the uneven edges! To create the pinwheel I cut the paper in two 3.5 inch squares and folded them like a paper fan and glued them together with the zipdry.
On the inside of the two large frames I lined it with the ribbon. I put a line of glue down first then added my ribbon.
For the flowers I simply cut it out a square from the Watering Can patterned paper. To dress them up I added cute ADORNit dimensional flower stickers.
Feel free to be creative with this project and have fun with it! When you’re all finished snap a picture of your project and share it on our ADORNit Facebook! This was my first DIY project so be sure to leave me a comment and tell me what you think.
XOXO
Jackie
